Haiti: A Collective Cry from a Forgotten Paradise.

Having traveled across the world, some few months ago, Bob finally made his way to his homeland of Haiti. It would be his very first time visiting the land of his bloodline, the beginnings of his parents and generations before.

In talks with Bob, I soon began to learn of his latest mission: a Miami gallery showcase of his adventure in Haiti. The shots he caught were simply breathtaking. Unless you’re from Haiti, you probably never thought such serenity existed: landscapes so aweless, people relocate their lives for them. In the US, Haiti continues to be branded as a place of poverty and crisis. Seeing Bob’s imagery shared another truth, a hidden escape protected by the enduring spirit and passion of its people.

As we prepared for this event, I learned a couple new things about Bob. One, Bob’s about his word. If unsuccessful, failure is only the product of effort. Two, he’s incredibly mobile… Every week, he’s practically somewhere new. Bob is also pretty fortunate. He has a rich network of people who care for him. Trust me, it took some support to pull off the event, but to be able to call on people for help is an option we all don’t always have. Don’t take it for granted.

I was honored to help my dear friend in developing the marketing and communications portion of the event. I designed and co-authored a multi-page promo communiqué (see below). Bob wanted an event keepsake for guests. So days before, I created a bi-fold brochure piece to enhance the browsing experience. From designer to production manager, and finally to package carrier, I concluded my contribution carrying the small boxes of prints across a 4 hour drive into the vibrant city of Miami (and with a billboard in my trunk… to be cont.).

At the same time, Bob handled production and installation while others coordinated the vendors, sponsors, media coverage, guests, entertainment, food and more. It was a truly memorable night. Guest turnout exceeded expectations as people continued to pour in and fill up the venue of Midtown Miami’s Macaya Gallery. We caught some recognizable faces along the way including NBA players Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem, and legacy, Alonzo Mourning, and rapper, Ace Hood.

You can check out Bob’s interview with Miami’s Ocean Drive magazine here.
