Unifying purpose for intelligent design

Studio 06 was a startup architectural practice based in Richmond, Virginia. The firm was just beginning to launch and needed their new brand’s identity to represent their unique problem solving approach.

Studio 06 was a startup architectural practice based in Richmond, Virginia. The firm was just beginning to launch and needed their new brand’s identity to represent their unique problem solving approach.

Concept

Form follows fresh

Leadership wanted the firm to resonate with prospective clients and leaders as the innovative firm for collaborative strategy. From small finishes to large fabrication, every project posed an opportunity to marry historic theory with fresh technology.

Elevate positioned Studio O6 as the renewed approach to the traditional architectural consultancy. We crafted their visual identity to convey the idea of meaningful contrast that unifies purpose.

Elevate approached Studio O6 as the renewed approach to the traditional architectural consultancy. We crafted their visual identity to convey the idea of meaningful contrast that unifies purpose.

Strategy

The solution is what it seams

In addition to a historical connection, the founder had a strong liking for the number six (6) and decided to brand it in the name. We found his preference to not only include the number, but a specific format as “O” “6”, the pronunciation of zero as “o.”

We realized this visual signature as a differentiation and brand equity opportunity. The joining of two parts drove our decision to create visible “breaks” in the the letters and in the “O6” pair. These control joints became a playful, interactive element and a transferable design gesture that activated the brand dimensionally.

The result was a symphony of segments seaming word with number into one, a perspective that merging diverse ideas can yield the unthinkable to solve a problem.

Stimulating innovation

We used this visible joint or break to split the number on stationery prints and eventually the openings and covers of other communications and architectural items.

Our work included the design of a modern stationery system that reinforced the brand’s strict black and yellow palette. To stimulate the sense of touch, we used Neenah’s Classic Crest Stipple for the brand’s paper.

Design assets also included project, contractual and report covers and a branded title block on a 12×18 template for small scale drawings.
